Cheryl Marie Wade was born in Vallejo, California in 1948. When she was 10 she was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
She received bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. She co-founded the
AXIS dance Troupe. Wade performed with Wry Crips, which presented poetry and drama written by women with disabilities from
1985-1989. Her solo career led her to perform in several videos. Wade also wrote poetry, plays and articles about disability
culture. She died in Berkeley, California on August 21, 2013.
